Glamour’s Beauty Editor Andrea Pomerantz Lustig on “How to Look Expensive”

PD: As a veteran beauty editor, you are always at the forefront of the fashion scene. How would you describe your personal style? Who are your favorite designers?

AL: My personal style is classic with a twist. I prefer to find unique things on my travels that I won’t see all over the place and you’ll never find me in a head-to-toe designer outfit. Designers I’m wearing this season include Hoss, Fabiana Filippi and Helmut Lang—I wore a great wine-colored dress on the Today Show from Helmut Lang. When I’m looking for a bargain or just need something great to wear fast, I’ll head to Zara.

PD: Your book outlines four luxe celebrity styles for women to emulate: Park Avenue Pretty, Hollywood Boho, Glam Globetrotter and Modern Movie Star. Which look do you personally identify with? Which celebrities do you draw inspiration from?

AL: Yes! It’s a fun way to show women how to ‘couturize’ their hair, makeup, nails and fragrance to fit their personal style. I’d say I’m a little bit of all of them at one time or another, but usually I go with Park Avenue Pretty with a Hollywood Boho or Glam Globetrotter twist! Another way of saying classic with a twist!

PD: What are the hot makeup trends for Fall?

AL: I’m loving deep jewel-toned nail polishes, like sapphire blue, deep greens and greys. There’s a darker makeup direction—more glam deep shades of lipstick—and a shimmery nude direction that focuses more on a bronzy brown eye. When wearing bronzy smokey eyes pair the look with softer nude lips with a shimmery finish. Gold shadow is also hot right now and can be a really pretty way to accent eyes, almost like rimming them with a halo of light.
