Glamour’s Beauty Editor Andrea Pomerantz Lustig on “How to Look Expensive”

PD: Describe your everyday makeup routine.

AL: I’ve got my routine pretty much down pat and describe both my everyday eye makeup, a bronzy smokey neutral eye everyone compliments me on, as well as give readers a look at my personal makeup bag—and my low-cost dupe bag—in the book. But here’s my latest look: I start with a BB cream—Dior is a favorite but I also like L’Oreal for a more affordable option. I have a review of all the new BB creams on my website. I use a rosy pink cream blush followed with NARS The Multiple Orgasm stick to give my cheeks a glow. On my eyes I use a bronzy eyeshadow stick in the crease and across my lid, then add bronze eyeliner on my top lash line and a little on the bottom and finish with Trish McEvoy mascara. If I need extra definition, I’ll add a little black liquid or gel liner on the outer third of my lids. On my lips, I use whatever I happen to be trying and into at the moment. Right now I’m into Laura Geller Light Beams Lip Gloss in Nectar and Sonia Kashuk’s Rosy Nude Lip Crayon.

PD: What are your current beauty or fashion obsessions?

AL: Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray: Like a hairstylist in a bottle…or living with a hair stylist—spray it on and get instantly gorgeous hair that looks like it’s been styled by a very hip hairstylist.

Jin Soon Nail Polish in Rhapsody: A vintage grey blue polish named by Coco Rochas and Nostalgia, a pink beige that elongates your fingers and makes your hands look more elegant.

Garnier Fructis Haircare Sleek & Shine Sleek Finish 5-In-1 Serum Spray: It’s a low-cost argan oil spray that gives the perfect, not too-heavy mist to rid frizz, make dried ends look healthier and add shine—and it smells delicious—for less than $6.

Sonia Kashuk Eye Definer in Plummy Bronze: It’s a bronze eye pencil, has the perfect texture and gives my eyes definition without a heavy line of black or boring brown. It’s like a halo of light around my lashes!

PD: What beauty products are in your purse right now? Name one item that every woman should add to their makeup bag.

AL: NARS Orgasm Multiple Stick: I can’t live without this peachy gold blush/highlighting stick. I swipe it on the apples of my cheeks and blend and feel instantly more glam.

NARS Orgasm Multiple Stick, $39

Laura Geller Baked Foundation: Perfect to get rid of shine and give me just a little more coverage if my foundation has faded.

Colorganics Hemp Organics Lip Tints in Wine, Berry and Love: A hint of color plus moisturizer that gives lips a pretty natural finish. I like the berry colors.
