Glamour’s Beauty Editor Andrea Pomerantz Lustig on “How to Look Expensive”

PD: If your beauty regimen had to be downsized to two essential products, what would you choose?

AL: NARS Orgasm and Trish McEvoy Mascara! I can’t live without either and once you have glowy, flushed cheeks and amazing lashes, not much else matters!

Trish McEvoy Mascara, $30

PD: Where do you go to find inexpensive beauty products or the best deals on makeup?

AL: I’m a big fan of Sonia Kashuk’s makeup line at Target. I also love the Sephora Collection private label products. Both offer really high-end finishes, colors and formulas at amazingly affordable prices. I also love lines like Milani, NYX Cosmetics and NYC Color that knock off some of my favorite high-end products. I have a section in the book called “Cheap Secrets of Expensive Makeup Artists.” I’m always collecting great drugstore finds I discover through makeup artists or on my own, like Maybelline Stiletto Mascara and L’Oreal True Match and Visible Lift foundation.

PD: Congratulations on your new book, How to Look Expensive. Tell us about it and what inspired the concept?

AL: The book was inspired by my “aha!” moment during the financial crisis. My husband was working late and people were losing their homes and jobs, all while I was being sent amazing beauty advice and tips from celebrity beauty experts straight off the runway. I realized that it would cost a real woman a fortune to actually get the look of celebrities they admire, and that both my brain and inbox were filled with a goldmine of beauty advice that could help real women bridge the gap between what they wanted to look like and what they could afford to look like.
