MM: Who are some of your favorite designers?
EJL: I have too many but definitely Margiela, Alaia, Lanvin, Balenciaga and Gaultier. I’m really getting into Céline right now and I love the simplicity and ease of Rick Owens’ tops. I just found a great new designer who I Iove wearing… Rabih Kayrouz! I’m not very brand loyal I like to mix it all up.
MM: What are some of your favorite accessible brands and places to shop?
EJL: H&M (I like the one in Europe), Uniqlo, Zara, and J. Crew and Top Shop in London is fantastic. I love All Saints and just got this cute beaded mini skirt from them with an Aztec kind of print. Anywhere you shop you have to edit through and for me the art of it is all about collecting pieces rather than buying every season. We all want to fall in love with shoes and bags and in reality I haven’t even bought a bag yet this season, I buy them when I fall in love!
MM: Describe your philosophy on collecting things, rather than buying.
EJL: I always say that good fashion becomes great style and if you shop moments. I have my staples and preach this life of collecting rather than going out and shopping for things. I never go looking for a bathing suit-I find great ones during my travels. I have an amazing caftan collection, which has come from my voyages around the world.
MM: What are five items that every woman needs in her wardrobe?
EJL: 1. A well-tailored blazer. 2. A variety of pants: a great pair of slacks and a fantastic evening pant. I also like pajama style pants and get mine from Cavalli every time they have a great print! 3. A tailored button down- they always look great. 4. An overcoat- they age well with any wardrobe. 5. A leather jacket.
