TREND: Indian Influences
Marchesa, Tracy Reese, Vera Wang, Rachel Roy
There was a decidedly Eastern slant to many of the shows this year, focusing directly on India in the 1960’s. The use of gold, lace, braid, light-weight brocade, and sequins evoked a mystical, sensual quality carried through especially well in the gowns and party frocks at Marchesa. Blingy yet subtle Indian accents were found at shows such as Vera Wang and at one of Michelle Obama’s favorite designers, Tracy Reese. Nods to traditional Indian wear such as kurtas and Nehru jackets were seen in silhouettes across the board, as were rich, saturated colors suggestive of Indian saris.
