Surf ‘N Turf
I can’t make it to the Hamptons this weekend. I need a great restaurant that feels like a getaway.
|It may be the East Side, not the East End, but you won’t regret staying local when you try Parlor Steakhouse, one of AskMelissa’s Best Kept Secrets. Escape the city’s hustle and bustle inside this serene restaurant with a mezzanine dining room, glass-enclosed café and mahogany bar with flat screens for sports. For those seeking outdoor adventure, Parlor has just opened a sidewalk patio.
Chef Lucas Billheimer (of Lure Fishbar and Park Avenue Café fame) has us swooning over side dishes like French fries topped with thinly sliced fried onions and the creamiest mashed potatoes this side of the Mason-Dixon Line. And we can never decide between appetizers like the yummy chopped salad and the soft-shell crab with mango and mache. This menu has something for everyone, even the kids, who love the filet mignon and the grilled salmon as much as we do.
This neighborhood gem is worth the trip. We’d go for the warm, freshly baked cookies and the homemade ice creams and sorbets alone. And don’t even get us started about their fabulous weekend brunch.
Here’s an AskMelissa hot tip: make a Friday night reservation and preorder the lobster special. If you don’t, they’ll be gone. Who needs the Hamptons?!
Special: Every two customers will receive a complimentary dessert to share when you mention AskMelissa. Through Labor Day.
