Named by Donna Karan as “One of the Women Who Inspire”, I am excited to share what Cornelia has been up to lately and of course get some of her green tips and product picks.
MM: Tell us a little about your new handbag and accessories line.
CG: I wanted to create an intelligent alternative; a line of accessories that used no animals, was luxurious, and very wearable, that you can take all day to all night.
MM: Where is it available for purchase and what is the price range?
CG: It’s available at Bloomingdale’s, Bloomingdales.com, Target, Tootsies, C.Orrico and boutiques around the country. A list of stores is available on CorneliaGuest.com. All under $350.00.
MM: Three words to describe the collection?
CG: Humane, affordable, beautiful.
MM: Most of the vegan handbags on the market are lacking in style- how did you do it, and so well- I love them!
CG: Thank you. It’s a compilation of all the things I love and I asked lots of my friends for help!
MM: A lot of people hear the words “cruelty-free” tossed around, what exactly does that mean to you?
CG: “Cruelty-free” means “humane.” No animals are ever hurt while making my products. My cookies are also cruelty-free. My book, which is coming out June 12, 2012, “Simple Pleasures,” is a humane, cruelty-free lifestyle book.
MM: What are some of your favorite vegan finds?
CG: Clothing: Stella McCartney
Restaurants: NYC Angelika Kitchen, Organic Avenue
Shoes: I’m working on my own. That’s my next task.
MM: Who are some of your favorite designers?
CG: Badgley Mischka, St. John, J.Crew, Levi’s, American Apparel
MM: How would you describe your personal style?
CG: My style is humane and classic with a twist.
MM: Name three of your eco-conscious staples?
CG: Fine & Raw Chocolate, Juice Press, CleanWell sanitizing wipes, and Dr. Frank Lipman’s Sustain Protein Supplement powder for smoothies.
MM: What type of skincare do you use?
CG: Joanna Vargas — all her products, and I swear by her facials!
MM: What about hair care? Yours always looks so good!
CG: Wen. I LOVE their shampoo and Nikki Ray at AKS Salon cuts it.
MM: What do you do to de-stress?
CG: Pilates, dance, play with my dogs. I love the water. The ocean is the best de-stresser ever!
MM: What tips do you have for someone who would like to transition to a vegan lifestyle?
CG: Find what humane, cruelty-free products you like and slowly start to incorporate them into your daily life. Bit by bit, baby steps grow into big steps.

It’s fun to learn what your favorite designers do on a daily basis, let alone every half hour. I recently sat down with Jay Godfrey to get his play by play on a typical day, and what gets him going (Espresso!). It’s a guarantee he’ll never leave home without his iPhone and an ingrained image of his baby girl, Allegra. Get a glimpse into JG’s life:
5:44 am: I hear my alarm go off. Ok, no I don’t! I hear my one year old, Allegra, crying. Ok, not that either. Why the hell am I up?! Must be thinking about work. Back to sleep I go.
7:16 am: Ok. Now I am really up. I hear Allegra calling for me and her mommy to come get her from her crib.
7:19 am: Diaper change. “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” sung. Espresso machine on and heating up.
7:35 am: Espresso gone. Make another. Go get the NY Post and NY Times to get some news at my front door. Tired of “debt ceiling” and Casey Anthony stories. Loved restaurant reviews in the Times and can’t wait to try David Bouley’sBrushstroke, which received two stars this morning.
8:02 am: Steam, shower, groom, pick out my clothes (Nudie Jeans, American apparel Deep V, Jil Sander cotton navy blazer, Duckie Brown for Florsheim no lace brogues). No socks today.
8:30 am: Third espresso. Eating two slices of whole wheat toast my wife Dara made me with peanut butter and Nutella. YUM!
8:44 am: Hop on the E Train north to the garment district.
9:02 am: Arrive at the office to a LONG LONG LONG LONG to do list. Start returning emails to my factory in China.
10:00 am: Full team meeting to chat about all things going on in the world of Jay Godfrey. I mention to the team about an appearance I am going to be making on a Bravo reality show about matchmaking.
11:05 am: Design meeting with associate designer to discuss Spring 2012 prints in Photoshop. Some fab kaleidoscope prints are being concocted in front of my eyes.
11:55 am: Surprise pop into the studio from my wife and baby. Made my day!
12:33 pm: Starting to get hungry but somehow the girls in my office start talking about the Bachelorette and I get roped into a conversation about who I want to win. Massive fake argument ensues.
1:39 pm: Still haven’t gone for lunch. Getting ravenous (and maybe a bit grumpy). Need to eat. Off to grab a sandwich and return to my desk.
2:22 pm: Phone rings and big Hollywood stylist calls me in a frantic (albeit funny) fit. She needs a particular dress made ASAP in two different colors. DEEP BREATHS! Okay!
3:00 pm: Japanese luxury trim manufacturer coming to show me and my associate designer their latest and greatest.
3:45 pm: INSPIRED! Some great and exciting new trims. My mind is racing with ideas. Need to sleep on some of them, though.
4:12 pm: Production manager comes to my office saying that the factory in China is having difficultly telling which color I call “Lipstick Red” and the one I call “Bordeaux”.
4:33 pm: Bravo show producers drop in for a quick “site visit”.
5:02 pm: In the sample room with my head of production, VP of Sales, patternmaker and sample maker, discussing options for exclusive styles we’re creating for Intermix.
5:18 pm: Step into meeting with our CFO, Sean, to discuss the possibility of a JAY GODFREY retail store! Sounds exciting. A bit scary too.
6:46 pm: In a taxi home to play with Allegra and put her to bed.
7:46 pm: Dara made a DELICIOUS salmon teriyaki. Have a delicious glass of Provence-style rose.
8:43 pm: Off for a jog along the Westside highway. Thinking about Spring 2012 and cant get it out of my head.
9:35 pm: Return to my apartment – totally and utterly exhausted. Time for my wind down – steam, bath, book, news.
10:33 pm: A few emails come in as China opens. Nothing crazy.
11:30 pm: In bed. Ready to sleep but Spring 2012 is still on my mind. I get up, go to my sketch book, and quickly jot down some ideas.
11:52 pm: Back in bed. Need to rest!

Equal parts comfy and chic, we’ve compiled a list of on-trend casual clothes for summer – mix and match for a variety of looks guaranteed to keep you looking cute long before cocktail hour.
It’s all about fit this summer… less of it! Stay lovely in tanks that are loose and frame-flattering, such as this nautical-striped silk top from Joie or SPLENDID’s Cotton Mesh & Chambray Stripe Tank. Like any designer piece worth its price tag, beauty is in the details: Accenting the finer, delicate features of your body is both sexy and feminine. We’re loving scoopnecks, the perfect style for highlighting your collarbone and elongating your neck. Try ecoSkin’s Hydra Top, Two Color Rugby Stripe Scoopneck Top from SPLENDID, or Ralph Lauren’s Modal-Cashmere Scoopneck Tee for a look that shows you off without showing too much. If your taste is more dramatic than demure, we recommend Rammy Brook’s DEBBY top. The charmeuse staple combines the airy flow of a summer tank with the daring plunge of a night-worthy neckline, while the high neck in back and careful front drapery keep it just right for the daylight hours.
Get back in touch with your inner child this summer by channeling this season’s whimsical inspiration: Rainbow Bright. Summer’s hottest bottoms are coming fast and fashionable in an assortment of colors, from muted rose to hot, hot pink. J Brand’s Cut-off Shorts come in five eye-popping varieties, while Forever 21’s short shorts have you (mostly!) covered, with faded denim cutoffs available in a trio of light, pastel shades. Skinny jeans are a great fit all year round, and the warmer months are a perfect excuse to experiment with a warmer color palette. Rag & Bone have a sweetly rose-toned skinny cigarette pant, Urban Outfitters offers a high-rise take on the look in berry, and for an even comfier fit with the skinny flair, we can’t wait to kick back in American Apparel’s Unisex Stretch Twill Slim Slack, carried in both hot + cold colors. Twill is our latest material of choice, great for those lazy days that mosey rather than move too quickly, and Forever 21’s Twill Joggers are right up our alley of relaxation. Ramy Brook’s Silk Stretch Charmeuse pants are a higher-end take on the jogger look, offered in the more understated options of mocha and fern.
There’s lots of crossover action going on in this season’s dress designs, and we want a piece of it! Both Edit and H&M are carrying dresses with the detailing of a great fitted shirt, replete with sleeveless button-up fronts and attached belts. We’re reaching for Phillip Lim’s Sleeveless Belted Patch Pocket Dress W/ Shirtail Hem, and H&M’s spin on the style, in either white or brown. Can’t decide which style suits you best? There’s always James & Joy’s Orange Convertible Dress, which goes both ways to equal fun and flirty effect: Pull the fitted bottom down for a sassy shift, or hike it up and pair over skinny jeans to wear as a loose, flowy top. For those whose style trends to the wild, jungle genre-bending is in: mix your maxis with fierce patterns, including Mink Pink’s Tribal Dancer Dress or TIBI’s Mosaic-print stretch-jersey maxi dress.
There’s only one way to move when your heels are strapped and styled in summer’s must-have sandals: sashay! Gladiators are still very much on-trend, but to more understated – and comfortable – effect. K.Jacques Suede Knot Sandal is a simple interpretation of the distinctly summer design, with a single strap around the heel and two encircling the front of the foot. A more open shoe, Endless’ Cocobelle Women’s Samuna Sandal puts a spin on traditional straps by twisting them over and around the big toe, while the crisscross design of Urban Outfitters’ Ecote Toehold Simple Gladiator Sandal keeps the detailing and definition of traditional Gladiators without restricting your foot.
Coco Chanel always said she never left the house without taking at least one item off – but she didn’t have accessories like these. We say, the more the merrier when it comes to Chan Luu: Layer the wrap bracelets for an exotic, beachy vibe, or wrap your wrists in a leather or intricately beaded cuff. Jill Heller Fine Jewelry is dedicated to bringing spiritual substance to the style of her Abundance bracelets – each sterling silver or gold-linked piece comes encased with a “scrolled mantra for abundance,” including instructions on how best to use the fashionable and wise words.
Any outfit, no matter the time of day, is ever complete without the right bag to complement, highlight, and pull everything together! For a comfy look, go for bags that, like your outfit, are less structured: CALYPSO St. Barth for Target’s Linen Tote is the perfect accessory for any relaxed beach-day wear, functionally sized and decorated with fun threaded detailing. CALYPSO’s Convertible Tote may be a little pricier, but it stands apart from the style pack as a study in daytime slouch chic.

As the Creative Director of PageDaily, I review so many amazing fashion items every day. I love curating the high-low to provide women with real value (or offer a selection to those who want to splurge)! Here are my favorites for summer:
BEACH COVERUPS Get summer chic with cover ups! The stylish sheer white fabrics and loose flowing sleeves are perfect for throwing on over a bathing suit for poolside or beachside fun. The one size fits all lightweight Love Quotes – Shiva Versatile Top/Coverup was recently seen on Halle Berry and has a huge celebrity following. Or, you can opt to rock the animal print trend with Top Shop’s Off White Animal Print Cover Up . Both of these can also be worn as tops with a cami underneath.
GIRLY CARDIGANS Add some flair to your basic white cardigans. The lightweight and soft Augden Deauville Ruffle Cardigan is adorned with two rows of washed silk ruffles. Launched in the fall of 2010, the Augden collection comprises of handcrafted sweaters that are handmade and knit from the finest and purest fabrics with remarkable attention to details. I also love draped cardigans such as the long sleeved Chelsea & Theodore Wrap Cardigan from Dillard’s. The romantic tiered ruffles along the open front of the cardigan are perfect with any summer outfit. When the sun goes down and the weather gets a bit chilly, you can’t go wrong with either of these two versatile cardigans that will keep you warm and looking fabulous.
FUN FEDORAS Top off an outfit with a fun fedora. Melissa Odabash’s Panama Hat, also seen on Cameron Diaz is a perfect choice to keep you in the shade while sipping cocktails by the pool. Melissa Odabash is known for her laid-back yet refined swimwear looks and of course, her hats have that same whimsicality. This one looks great on everyone. With mark’s Fierce Fedora you will also be “brimming with style.” Each fedora comes with three interchangeable bands in coral, black, and navy floral. Avon mark’s brand ambassador and Twilight actress, Ashley Greene was seen wearing the Fierce Fedora at the Coachella Music Festival. You can’t go wrong with either one.
CLASSIC AVIATORS Brave the luminous sun with ultra-cool aviators. Keep your eyes protected with distinguished titanium and leather frames from MODO for Jennifer Creel Aviators. These are the most gorgeous aviators. I love the white stitching detail and perfectly shaped tinted lenses. Urban Outfitters Classic Metal Aviator Sunglasses are a traditional aviator, always in style, and look good on everyone–I wear mine year in and year out!
BEACH BAGS Stay fashionable this summer with the amazingly stylish yet casual Mulberry Beach Tote Pink Trippy Tiger Print Raffia. The tote bag has two adjustable leather handles to easily carry everything you need for having fun in the sun. It is so gorgeous and chic–I like it as a day bag too. Another favorite for hitting the beach and town is the sturdy and lightweight American Apparel Large Denim Carry-All Bag in white. The newest edition to American Apparel’s accessory collection features a large easy to carry weekend bag made with leather accents and double shoulder straps.
GLADIATOR SANDALS Multi-strap leather sandals are perfect for summer. There’s nothing better than slipping on a pair of sandals and displaying impeccably pedicured toes. The Balenciaga gladiator inspired Multi-Strap Sandals are sophisticated, sexy and fun. Balenciaga’s flat open toe multi-strap sandals with contrast leather details and adjustable ankle straps have an attention-grabbing appeal that will look fantastic with mini-skirts, sun dresses and shorts. Gap Women’s Colorblock Sandals are so on-trend and great staples to have in your shoe collection this summer—they are comfortable, as well as a great value.
