Care for Color-Treated and Damaged Hair

Got dry, damaged or chemically-treated hair? We have you covered! Hair can be vulnerable to drying and breakage through daily brushing, washing, blow-drying and outdoor elements, especially in the summer. Chemical treatments or hair coloring add insult to injury! Whether you like to experiment with curling or straightening irons, color and chemical treatments, we can help you keep your hair healthy by using these products:

For Dry/Damaged Hair:

If you want instant softness and shine, try the Kerastase Masquintence Hair Thick Mask. Just after one shampoo, this mask left my hair smelling wonderful and incredibly soft to the touch. It works wonders for even frizzy and unmanageable locks. Expensive but worth it!

The L’Oreal EverStrong Deep Replenishing Masque will rescue your hair from split ends and other damages. It moisturized and repaired my hair cuticles leaving it soft and sleek. This amazing product was definitely love at first use.

For Color-Treated Hair:

Protect your color with a nourishing conditioner from Infusium 23. It adds luster and shine while preserving your ideal color. I like to put in a spray bottle and spray on my ends as a leave-in conditioner. Also, a great value!

Herbal Essences always has the yummiest smelling shampoos. This Color Me Happy one is no different. Now you can smell delicious and stop your hair from losing color and getting dull with their shampoo and conditioner.

A shampoo that does it all, Wella’s Color Preserving Hydrating shampoo prevents color fading and hydrates all at once. Beauty junkies have deemed this amazing for gals with curls or even coarse hair because it restores bounce and tames frizz. Love the smell too.

Milbon’s Neu Due line of shampoos and conditioners are designed to improve the texture of color-treated hair without altering color. Its fresh floral scent is not overbearing, recommended to those who seek a natural odor. Now you can keep your color brighter, for longer!

Ask Melissa: Hair Straightening

Ask Melissa: My hair is very wavy and has lots of blonde highlights. I love the sleek look of the Brazilian Blowout, but I’m concerned about the hazards involved in many of these straightening treatments. I wish I could try Japanese straightening, but I hear it is very damaging and can’t be used on bleached hair. What do you suggest?

Japanese hair straightening was very popular several years ago before Brazilian took over as the new rage for straight locks. Many people with color-treated hair could not use the Japanese chemical, as it was too damaging. The Brazilian treatment became so popular because it can be used on highlighted or weak hair sans the damage. Unfortunately, the treatment contains formaldehyde and has been proven hazardous to your health.

I am so excited to have discovered the NEW Japanese hair straightening product called Cashmere Luminance by Milbon, a fantastic new smoothing solution that’s both gentle and effective. It’s best for those with naturally wavy or frizzy color-treated hair, and can also be used to treat curly hair, keeping it tame and manageable in the humidity. The process takes about 1.5 – 2 hours depending on the length and thickness of your hair. It’s safe, 100% formaldehyde-free, and lasts about three months.

Yuki Yamazaki and I at Mingle Salon after the Cashmere Luminance treatment

I recently tried the Cashmere Luminance Japanese treatment with stylist Yuki Yamazaki of Salon Mingle* in NYC and am beyond happy with the results (he has been straightening my hair for years). (He is now at the Pierre Michel salon.) My hair is very manageable and has never felt so soft and looks shiny.  I am one month into the treatment and still LOVING it. As you can see, it is still easy to get a wave into your hair after this treatment (my beach-wave style was done with a small round brush– check out the how-to video below).
