Memorial Day is coming up and the summer season is upon us. I’m starting mine off on May 26th when I host the Annual Summer Kick Off Gala for Miracle House at the Bridgehampton Tennis & Surf Club. It’s always a fun party with a great crowd and raises a lot of money for a terrific organization. It’s a feel good way to start the summer. You can kick off the season feeling good, and also looking good with these tips:
- With summer comes nice weather, but sometimes the weather gets a bit hot and sticky. I always keep Shiseido Blotting Papers in my bag because they are the best to help with oily skin which can become worse in hot weather.
- My good friend, celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson has a great line of hair products and one that I love for the summer are his Ted Gibson Hair Sheets. They protect hair from UV Rays and they calm flyaways. It’s beauty on-the-go and it comes in simple foil packets that you can take to the beach or on vacation. They are also great as a refresher for a day-old blowout.
- And speaking of the beach, I have recently found a great line of swimwear, bikini’s and coverups. They are called Agua de Coco and they are sexy, stylish and reasonably priced. Plus they come in fun colors and prints.
- When you are walking around the city, on vacation or at the beach, check out City Slips. They are foldable ballet slippers that are so comfortable. They are great to take on vacation if you are doing a lot of walking or sightseeing. I take them to events for after standing for a long time in heels — it’s great to pull them out of your purse and start feeling comfortable.
- And lastly, let’s think hydration: I just love coconut water and it is a great way keep you cool and water-filled on a hot day in the city or at the beach. Zico Coconut Water comes in great flavors. I love the mango! It’s one of my favorites.

Real Housewives of New York star Countess LuAnn de Lesseps just got back from a three-week trip to Corsica and Paris and all she brought with her was a single carry on! LuAnn made it back just in time to view the reunion shows which air on Bravo on Monday, July 25th and Monday, August 1st (two 90 minute specials).
Don’t believe it? Read on for Countess LuAnn’s tips on how to pack light with style.
Think before you pack: “Instead of packing individual items and trying to piece an ensemble together later, lay everything out and plan your outfits ahead of time.”
Travel in your bulkiest pieces: “Things like sweaters and comfortable shoes tend to take up the most space in your bag, so plan to wear those items en route to your destination.”
Go basic: Packing neutral items allows for flexibility in your wardrobe. Pieces like a fitted blazer, a LBD, or sexy jeans can be dressed up with accessories to go seamlessly from day to night. “I like to travel with fun costume jewelry, which takes up less room, and helps turn a basic item into a bold statement.”
Stay pressed: Countess LuAnn’s trick for fighting wrinkles is to roll dresses in plastic bags. “It will prevent creasing so you don’t have to worry about finding an iron.”
Rinse and Repeat: Consider staying at a hotel with laundry service. Otherwise, you can pack travel detergent like Travelon Laundry Soap Sheets for a quick wash in the sink.
In addition to the release of her new dance single “Chic, C’est La Vie” available on iTunes, Countess LuAnn also has just developed and released a new iPhone app available through the Apple Store.
Raised in a boisterous Connecticut household with six siblings by her Algonquin father and a French mother, Countess LuAnn knows firsthand that class is a state of mind, not a birthright. Having been instilled with a strong sense of values and understanding the importance of doing for others, her first career was as a practical nurse. Through a series of luck and happenstance, the nurse became a model in Milan and the model caught the attention of a TV magnet who turned her into an Italian television personality.
The girl from small town Connecticut quickly fell in love with the Italian lifestyle and began to build a life there. After years of absorbing continental manners and style, LuAnn began a fairy-tale romance with Count Alexandre de Lesseps, a French Aristocrat of the Suez Canal dynasty, and married into high society. The Countess is a living example that elegance, taste, and chic can be acquired. It is this sophistication that she hopes to share with her fans.
I’ve realized that there is a real desire to learn more about manners and etiquette and that you don’t have to be rich, famous, or noble to have an unforgettable presence and feel comfortable anywhere, anyplace, anytime. I truly believe that elegance can be learned.
Countess Luann continues to add to her large fan base garnered from three seasons starring in Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New York City. Her decorum on the reality show, brisk sales of her book Class with the Countess, the release of her new single and music video Money Can’t Buy You Class on Ultra Records, and her frequent appearances on talk and news shows have made her a highly sought after life-style expert. Countess LuAnn can be seen providing relevant news and celebrity commentary on the panel of CBS TV’s The Insider, and in her weekly column every Monday for Ok! Magazine.com called What Would the Countess Do?
The Countess has been featured in publications around the country and internationally including People Magazine, The New York Times, In Touch Weekly, Harpers Bazaar, The New York Post, USA Today, Woman’s Day, New York Times Magazine, Life & Style Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Gotham and Hamptons Magazine. She has appeared on Larry King Live, The Joy Behar Show, CNN Show Business Tonight, Entertainment Tonight, The Today Show, Good Morning America, Extra, Good Day New York, KTLA Morning News, E! Entertainment, The Style Network’s The Dish, PBS’s Moment of Luxury and TV Guide’s The Fashion Team. In February 2011, she made a guest appearance on Law & Order: SVU and she also made a cameo appearance on the popular USA Network series Royal Pains. She also recently made her cabaret debut at New York’s Town Hall on the bill with Liza Minnelli and Chita Rivera as part of the Jim Caruso Cast Party benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
A strong supporter of giving back to the community, Countess Luann brings her volunteer leadership and resources to the American Cancer Society, GLAAD, Hetrick Martin Institute, The Auditory/Oral School of Brooklyn, and ACE’s Soho Partnership and was just photographed along with many major celebrities for California’s NOH8 Campaign.
Luann’s book, Class With the Countess is available in paperback on Amazon.com. Her single, Money Can’t Buy You Class is available on iTunes and Amazon MP3. Her new dance single Chic C’est La Vie is now available on iTunes as well as the Countess Luann iPhone App.
