3 Makeup Tips Every Girl Should Know Right Now

This spring is all about bright lips, shimmery smoky eyes and flawless, natural-looking skin–three makeup looks that aren’t easy to pull off. So when I met up with celebrity makeup artist Mally Roncal (a favorite of Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, and Ashlee Simpson) to celebrate her makeup brand’s 7th year anniversary (a true QVC hit), I squeezed her for some of this season’s most essential makeup how-to tips.
Why You Should Try Tangerine Tango
1. Learn to love bright lips.
It seems that almost every celebrity who walks down the red carpet these days is sporting a bright lip. The look is fresh, flirty and a welcome change after years of slicking on sheer lip gloss. But, bright lips can definitely be daunting. “It may seem really scary, but you have to train your eye to get used to it. Force yourself to wear it one day, then see how many compliments you get. Watch how great, bright, beautiful and amazing everyone says you look, then you’ll get used to it, fast!” says Roncal.
As for choosing the right color, a true coral lipstick is the most wearable. “It’s a balance of pink and orange so you get a little of both, and it works on both warm and cool skin tones,” says Roncal. A new hue that fits the bill: Clinique Long Last Lipstick in Runway Coral ($15, Clinique.com).
Another wearable color: fuchsia. “It’s flattering on all skin tones, but maybe wear it as a sheer stain so it’s not over the top,” advises Roncal. Mally Beauty Life, Love, and a Really Great Lipgloss Singles in Life is Fuchsia ($15, mallybeauty.com) is a great choice. “Also, a neutral brick red is always wearable.” Avoid those bright orange colors. “They can make your teeth look yellow, like you just smoked a pack of cigarettes or drank a cup of coffee,” warns Mally.
2. Go ahead and be messy with eyeliner.
“Eyeliner that’s perfectly straight and sharp not only looks old fashioned, but it’s also very hard on the eyes,” says Roncal. “Eyeliner is almost always better if it has softness to it.”
So if you’re scared of botching an eyeliner application, don’t worry. Mess it up as much as you want, then use a cotton swap to blend a matching eye shadow over it and smoke it out. 3. Match your foundation to your collarbone, not your jawline.
Very few women can boast that they have naturally flawless and radiant skin. And to fake it, you need to find a foundation or tinted moisturizer formula that not only feels great, but is also the right color.
“Women always think that they should match their foundation to their jawline, but that’s not true. Since you wash your face twice a day, and most likely exfoliate it regularly, your face will always be lighter than your body. To make your face match the rest of your body, you should really match your foundation to your collarbone,” advises Roncal.

DIY: Oscar-Worthy Top Knots
Jennifer Lopez looked radiant at the Oscars donning one of the most highly sought after styles, the top knot. Utterly timeless and beyond chic, the style is great for special occasions and every day wear. Joshua Gambrell, stylist at Lotus Salon of Eufora International shared with us some of his insider tips on how to get the look without ever having to leave home.
A top knot should look effortless so make sure your hair is long enough to pull into a ponytail at your crown. Use a brush to pull hair into the ponytail for a smooth look. Secure the ponytail with a small clear plastic band. For a smooth top knot, wrap the hair around the band and secure with hair pins (not bobby pins). Complete the look with a finishing spray and a shine enhancer to add some glam to the look, I love Eufora’s Illuminate Shine Mist.
For an effortless, more messy top knot, use your hands and fingers as hair is pulled back into a ponytail at the crown. Secure the ponytail with a small clear plastic band, but for this softer look, don’t pull the hair all the way through the band. The hair that has been pulled through, pin loosely with hair pins. Complete the look with a flexible finishing spray to avoid a crunchy feeling and hold the messy look, such as Eufora’s Elevate Finishing Spray.
 Joshua Gambrell grew up with a talent for drawing and painting, but he was never really sure how he could transform his passion into a viable career. When a close friend suggested a career in hairdressing he knew there was nothing else he wanted to do. Now, nearly a decade later, Joshua is a respected stylist at the prominent Lotus Salon in New York City, the flagship salon for Eufora International. After receiving what he describes as “hardcore, old-school training” at cosmetology school, he became an assistant at one of the top salons in Lexington, Kentucky, upon graduation. Here he was trained in every aspect of hairdressing through the world renowned educators who often visited the salon.After leaving Lexington, Joshua started a new management position at another salon where his responsibilities as the educational and creative director included educating clients about various products and sculpting techniques. From there, he started working on runway shows during fashion week for designers such as Jillian Lewis, Nary Manivong, Lindsey Jones (Outlaws of the Border), Kati Stern (Venexiana), Adetacher, Caroline Siekaly, and, most recently, NAHM (Ally Hilfiger and Nary Manivong). He cemented the move to New York City when he began working for a salon developing an instructional program teaching haircutting to hairdressers from all over the country.
Joshua thinks the best reward from hairdressing is changing the way people see themselves. “As a hairdresser, you have the power to influence someone’s image. In the future, near or far, I always see myself making someone, somewhere feel beautiful,” he says. |

2012 Golden Globes Hottest Hair Trends
The Golden Globes are nearing, and while some are excited to see which movies and miniseries win, we’re excited to see the celebs, dresses and ‘dos! We talked to Wella Professionals Celebrity Hairstylist Andy LeCompte and Wella Professionals Color Ambassador Aura Friedman about their predictions on what hairstyles will make their way down the red carpet on Sunday night. Effortless Elegance With A Glossy Finish
“I think we’ll see a peak in fluid textures that suggest effortless elegance, like very healthy and sleek hair that shows a lot of movement. This style will be popular with soft and light tones with a warm glow that emphasizes healthy, shiny hair representative of the Wella Trend Vision look aptly named, Grace,” says LeCompte. Another great example: Charlize Theron’s shiny, sleek blowout with gentle waves.

“A perfect color,” says Aura, “should complement the person who’s wearing it…but also suit their personality and lifestyle.
