Designer Shoshanna Gruss’s Favorite Fashion Finds for Fall

This fall marked the launch of designer Shoshanna Gruss‘s first-ever foray into the online shopping scene. Her new website, www.shoshanna.com, has been open for e-commerce since September, allowing consumers to easily shop for her feminine and sexy styles. Designer Shoshanna Gruss was born and raised in Manhattan, attending the exclusive Nightingale-Bamford School on the Upper East Side.  After graduating from the University of California Los Angeles with degrees in History and Art History, Shoshanna began working at a lingerie factory to learn design, fabric sourcing, and construction.

Shoshanna Clothing Launches
In November 1998, Shoshanna launched her eponymous clothing line, Shoshanna. The dresses are whimsical with keen attention to detail.  In addition to her signature dresses, Shoshanna now designs full collections, including swimwear and accessories, from string bikinis to towels and totes. Her motivation? Explains Shoshanna: “I found that there were not any wearable, beautiful clothes out there for someone with my body type.  I could never find a halter dress or strapless top that offered support for women who usually need to wear a bra.  That experience inspired me to create the pieces that make up the core of my collection.”

The Success of Shoshanna Swimwear
Shoshanna introduced Shoshanna Swimwear in February 2001.  True to her signature style, the suits and prints are feminine, fun, and sexy.  The line was an instant success, due largely to its unique sizing: the two-piece suits are sold as separates.  Inspired by Shoshanna’s own bikini-shopping frustration caused by her shapely figure, her system accommodates all different body types and proportions. To ensure the best fit, tops are sized similarly to bras—based  on both back size and cup size—and available in Petite/Small A-DD or Medium/Large A-DDD accordingly.  The bottoms run Petite to Extra Large, and the separate pricing allows customers to mix and match depending on each woman’s physique. In addition to string, halter, and bandeau bikinis, the swimwear collection includes tankinis, maillots, and sarongs in a variety of solid colors and flirty prints.

Birth of Shoshanna BabyGirl
The arrival of her daughter in the spring of 2005 prompted Shoshanna to venture into children’s swimwear, which is now available under the Shoshanna BabyGirl label.

The Shoshanna dress, sportswear, and swimwear collections are carried in over 500 specialty and department stores nationwide, including Scoop, Kitson, Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdales. Outside of the U.S., the collection is available at Holt Renfrew in Canada; Mitsukoshi and Free’s stores in Japan; and select stores around Europe.
