Inside the RHONY’s Fabulous Summer Homes

Want a sneak peek into the luxurious summer homes of our favorite Real Housewives of New York? My friends and “Bravo-lebrities” Aviva, Ramona, and Countess LuAnn were kind enough to allow me to share these fabulous photos of their summer abodes (including some intimate family photos too). Check out what these lovely ladies said their favorite thing is about the summer while spending time at their fabulous Hamptons retreats.

Get Smooth for Summer

Who doesn’t want softer skin, especially during the summer? These amazing scrubs will leave your skin noticeably smoother, softer, and healthier. Each one of these favorites gently hydrate your skin ridding it of dirt and tired skin cells.

Bliss Lemon + Sage Body Scrub, $28

This body skin polish has tiny circular scrubbing grains that help to gently exfoliate your skin. Perfect for sensitive skin, the lightly lemon-scented scrub will leave your skin feeling soothed and renewed after every scrub.

Ahava Softening Butter Scrub, $20

This body scrub first starts off as a thick creamy body butter. When you add water, it quickly turns into a moisturizing scrub. Exfoliate in a circular motion, making sure to focus on problem areas like elbows and knees. The soft buttery formula will moisturize your skin leaving it softer than ever before.

Moroccanoil Body Butter, $42

The best way to apply this body buff is to scrub on before getting in the shower. Letting the oil soak in will help skin soften, allowing the scrub to really soak deep into the skin. Concentrate on areas that are rough or dry. This scrub is super light and perfect for sensitive and dry skin types.

St. Tropez Tan Optimizer Body Polish, $50

This St. Tropez Tan Optimizer is a must have for summer, especially if you are using a self-tanner. Prepare your skin for the perfect summer tan using this light, sugary scrub. It easily removes dead skin cells to brighten and prepare your skin for the best self-tan possible (which can be achieved by using the St. Tropez self-tanning mousse)!

Dr. Dennis Gross Skin Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel, $54

Using this daily face peel will quickly become your new best kept secret. It works quickly to even skin tone, visibly reduce pore size, and minimize fine lines and wrinkles. The added green tea extract helps to smooth, balance, and protect skin. This simple two step process will leave your skin feeling amazingly refreshed. Use it year-round!

Peter Thomas Roth Laser-Free Retexturizer Exfoliating Scrub, $30

This multi-action retexturizing scrub works wonders and contains moisturizers from sweet almond oils, apricot, mango, and Dragon’s Blood (an all natural plant based aid).  It feels great on the skin, minimizes pores, fine lines and wrinkles too. After a few uses, your skins texture will feel just like it was 10+ years ago.

St Ives Apricot Scrub, $5

This fabulous scrub will leave your skin extra smooth. The gentle exfoliating scrub will carefully remove dirt and oil, leaving your skin acne and blackhead free. It’s a great product for those who are breakout prone. I love the subtle apricot smell (and the price is right too)!

Made in the Shade- Our Fave Sunglasses for Summer

Appropriately called movie star, this timeless shape is reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.  Channel your inner Holly Golightly with these black shades — the shape is flattering on many different faces.

ICU Eyewear Cat Eye, $21.95
Old Hollywood is back!  Arguably the most glamorous sunwear silhouette, the cat eye is for a girl who isn’t afraid to stand out.  Or, if you can never seem to choose between black or tortoise sunnies, this pair is a perfect blend.

JACK SPADE “Ludovic” at Selima Optique, $385

Changing Over Your Summer Clothes to a Winter Closet

So many of us in smaller spaces urban environments like Chicago, NYC, Washington DC or Boston– just don’t have the space to have all our seasons in one closet!  Here are some tips on how to make the task of the change over more organized and streamlined while also being smart about leaving those bikinis nearby in case of a lucky mid-winter trip into the sun!

1. Always wash or dry clean anything that needs it before changing over your closet- yes, this may take some effort on the front end for those of you non neat freaks but your noses and clothes will thank you when it is time to put them on again!

2. Depending on whether you have any hanging out of season storage or not, always try to hang items you would naturally hang if folded storage is all you have, take great care in folding the items clean and neatly into a plastic container which is hard and allows for clothes not to be smashed!

3.Try to keep one container ready for resort items or items you may take with you on a warm weather trip on top of other items for easy access!

4.When putting clothes back into your closet, especially wool coats and cashmere sweaters, pants and blouses- invest in a steamer to bring them back to life and give everything that sat for months away a fresh, fluffy feel!

5. Boots and shoes do well to get a boot tree or shoe bouquet in them. To help restore their shape and store them upright.
6. I stuff winter purses and totes with dust bags when they’re being put back into the closet, this will help the bags take shape again after being flattened!  the dust bags have a two fold use since I always use them for packing as well!

Melanie Fascitelli grew up in many places: Manhattan, Palm Beach, Denver, the Caribbean, even a ranch in Georgia. A lifetime of traveling between several homes led Melanie to understand the need for the right clothes-and to develop the know-how for finding them wherever she happened to be. As a hobby, Melanie began to dress her mother, her brothers and whoever else would let her. In fact, her style-conscious father, a fellow shopaholic, was the lone hold-out. Upon her return to New York to attend NYU, that hobby quickly turned into an infatuation.

While at NYU, Melanie worked for PR firm Paul Wilmot Communications, where she put her talents to work, consulting with designers and PWC’s many luxury goods clients to organize showrooms. Later, as an editor for Channel magazine, she developed a keen editorial eye, covering fashion and accessories and writing both news and feature stories. At LuxuryFinder.com, which was later acquired by eLuxury, Melanie further honed her knowledge of the fashion industry, outfitting celebrity clients, writing articles and helping to conceive and develop the site. For Style.com, Melanie covered European and American fashion shows as well as parties and celebrities, and then went on to serve as a director of public relations at Anne Klein. After going out on her own, she mainly worked as a fashion stylist and then a freelance creative design director for retail and showroom spaces in New York City, Miami and Los Angeles.

Melanie is considered the “closet organizer to the stars…the absolute guru in designing and building custom closets and dressing rooms…”  She has worked with a number of celebrity clientele. Her elite clientele swear by Melanie’s ten commandments of hanging outlined in her book, such as “Thou shalt hang as much as possible in thy closet”.  Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss, designer of international brand Shoshanna, lists Clos-ette as “…One of her top wish-worthy products sure to make any woman feel stylish everyday.”  Actress Lake Bell attests to Clos-ette’s success saying, “It will not cure your shoe shopping addiction, ladies, but it can help you understand how to store your 23 pairs of Louboutins.  I recommend it to every fashion slut out there.”

Today, Melanie’s distinct fashion sense and skills at working one-on-one to help others achieve their ideal style, whether in their wardrobes or their closets, have been channeled into Clos-ette. Since the founding of Clos-ette in the spring of 2002, Melanie has designed a line of storage solution products called Clos-ette Too…, written the ultimate closet guide book entitled “Shop Your Closet: The Ultimate Guide to Organizing Your Closet With Style”, and transformed countless dressing room spaces around the world.  Melanie and the Clos-ette Team continue to expand Clos-ette through their evolving product line, an array of media opportunities including a television show, and by sticking to what they do best – working inside the closet. Clos-ette is a reflection of Melanie’s personal style and taste, both of which are brought to the craftsmanship and attention to detail of everything Clos-ette offers.  The Clos-ette team boasts not only Melanie, but some of the most experienced stylists, millwork detail designers and inventory specialists in the business.

Our Favorite Frozen Treats: Best Gelatos and Sorbets

With the handful of heat waves we experienced here in New York this summer, we had to try just about anything and everything to keep cool, which means we’ve tried our share of frozen desserts, too! Summer may be almost over but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy these cold, sweet treats anytime of the year to cool you down or just satisfy your sweet tooth.

Gelato is a type of Italian ice cream. Ciao Bella gelatos are available at most grocery stores and come in an assortment of unique flavors. This Key Lime Graham Cracker is light and refreshing while also super satisfying with the inclusion of crunchy graham cracker crumbs.

Sant Ambroeus has an amazing selection of authentic and gelato flavors. They are so creamy and delicious that they actually rival those found in Italy! Our Founder, Melissa Meyers is obsessed with the Gianduja (chocolate hazelnut concoction) and caramel flavors, and makes regular visits to all New York locations to enjoy her favorite frozen treat.

Il Laboratorio del Gelato has a few locations in New York but also ships fresh gelato and sorbet to your door. It is artisan-made in small batches for exceptional quality. Plus it has traditional and experimental flavors, from avocado to watermelon.

Sharon’s sorbet was the first to be mass-produced and available at major grocery chains, but is still all-natural and high quality. Nothing tastes like summer more than coconut, and with an array of other summery varieties like papaya and strawberry, this brand is a summer sorbet staple.

Haagen-Dazs is, of course, a household name when it comes to ice cream, but did you know they also make delectable sorbets? Their raspberry sorbet is fruity AND fat-free, so that means you don’t have to feel guilty about an extra scoop. The chocolate only has .5g of fat, so I like to do one scoop of raspberry with one of chocolate for a rich but refreshing dessert.
