Top 5 Trends from Fashion Week
By Melissa Meyers
This season’s shows pulled out all the stops as celebrities, socialites, and the fashion world elite came out for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Bryant Park. Fashion lovers braved the snow and the crowds to see the fall collections from Jill Stuart, Tibi, Christian Siriano, Anna Sui, ADAM, Pamella Roland and much, much more. Here are the 5 hot trends that I saw all over the runways.

Accessories:What accessory is making an encore appearance from last fall? Tights! I personally love this trend. But don’t get too comfortable with your black basics. Next fall, look for bold colors, unusual materials, and subtle patterns. And what goes better with those tights than the perfect boot! Booties and thigh-high boots made their mark again, and the peep-toe bootie has now crossed over to a thigh-high version. I can’t wait to see if this look translates from runway to real world. Not daring enough for peep-toe thigh-high boots? Not to worry. You can have plenty of fun playing with the belts and bangles of the season. I loved the bangles at the Christian Cota presentation. And no need to pick and choose—you can stack them all the way up your arm! Color:Gray paired with all shades of green ruled the runways. And every designer seemed to start with gray and then pile on sequins, leather, and fur to create their looks. For bolder color this season, the hue of choice was royal blue. I loved the use of navy and peach at the Tibi show. And be on the lookout for hints of neon pinks and yellows. Sequins, Fur, and Leather:The collections were all about embellishment! Shiny sequins, fur, and leather were everywhere. Worn with neutrals or fur jackets, from a subtle splash to floor-length dresses, sequins will sparkle next season. On my wish list? Tibi’s floor-length, pink sequined dress. I loved the use of leather and fur to pull all the fall looks together. From nail heads to thin belts, get ready to start mixing in leather with your everyday look. And it looks like fur will be popular again, from the long, belted coats as seen at Michael Kors to the fur capelets, shrugs, and vests that came down the runway at Anna Sui. Layers:Layers, layers, and more layers! From elegant lace to fur jackets to sequined blouses, designers were doing more than layering fabrics—they were layering trends! Edition by Georges Chakra layered bold coats over dark dresses, and Richard Chai presented sweaters over subtle feminine blouses and even sweaters over sweaters. The Trias show went with a more utilitarian look, layering solid gray wools, like the capelets shown over long-sleeved dresses. I could definitely incorporate this look into my everyday style. Masculine Meets Feminine:Next fall, you’ll also see a lot of feminine meets masculine—wool pencil skirts paired with flowing floral blouses; bold geometric lines to create feminine silhouettes. And many designers even marched models down the runway in men’s-style footwear. SpottedRed Dress Event: Reggie Bush, Patrick McMullan, William H. Macy, Kristin Chenoweth, Jordin Sparks, Felicity Huffman, Bethenny Frankel, Regina King, Kimora Lee, Estelle, Elisabeth Hasselback, Heidi Klum, and Kim Kardashian
