Urban Zen is a lifestyle brand that balances philanthropy and commerce. Founded by Donna Karan and Sonja Nuttall in 2006, the retail boutiques were created with the purpose of supporting the Urban Zen Foundation. The goal of the Foundation is to raise awareness and inspire change by providing funding for three areas that the Founders describe as their greatest passions: well-being, empowering children and preserving cultures.
Fashion, photography, art, children’s clothes and books create a holistic retail environment in New York City and Sag Harbor. There is an ambiance created by artisans, whose craft and artwork is on display along with the work of many artists from around the world. Included is a unique collection of jewelry, sculpture and hand-crafted furniture. Donna Karan designed The Urban Zen label for each of the stores, a comfortable line of clothing made of cashmeres, cottons and linens. Urban Zen also hosts art exhibitions in their space with proceeds going towards various charitable causes. World-renowned photographers donate their images so the Urban Zen Foundation can have the opportunity to raise awareness and inspire change.
