The Skinny on Bethenny Frankel’s New Shapewear Line
“Skinnygirl” Bethenny Frankel has skyrocketed to stardom since her start on the Real Housewives of New York. As a reality TV star, author, and Mom, she has launched a line of cocktails, snacks, skincare products, a new novel, and most recently a talk show (I am exhausted already). I caught up with Bethenny at the launch of her fabulous new shapewear line to talk about her latest projects, fave beauty products and of course, what’s next.
Melissa Meyers: What inspired you to do a line of shapewear?
Bethenny Frankel: Women telling me it rolls up; it rolls down. It’s too expensive. They have body flaws and they don’t feel comfortable with the shapewear they’re wearing because they don’t want people to see it. This is shapewear you actually want people to see and is affordable.
MM: What’s a tip you have for women who are new to shapewear?
BF: It can be what you want it to be. You can take baby steps. You can wear it with your own bra. Wear it under dresses and under suits. You have to get use to it and figure out where to wear it because it’s not just for wearing under your clothes. It’s great to have undergarments that are sexy and affordable. I used to wear very unattractive undergarments because that’s what was comfortable. But now, why not wear something sexy since it costs the same, and just start wearing it under things and let it show a little?

MM: After books, workout DVDs, cocktails and now shapewear, what’s next for you?
BF: I have a skin care line. I have a Skinnygirl daily on-the-go nutrition, which is bars to cleansers to vitamin power packs. I have a new talk show (premiering June 11th) on FOX that I am really excited about. And my book, Skinnydipping is now out. It is a sexy, saucy, dishy novel about a girl named Faith who moves to LA, and is trying to make it…it’s about the complications she gets into being broke and then having to move back to New York. It’s definitely inspired by events in my life.
MM: You always have to look camera-ready for filming Bethenny Ever After. What are your fave beauty products? Hair and skin products?
BF: I use tinted moisturizer with SPF (Skinnygirl skin). I exfoliate once a week. I am using under eye cream. I have no idea if it’s working, but I’m using it. My whole point is it doesn’t have to be expensive. It’s about toning serum. You don’t want a lot of extra junk in the product or chemicals. You just want it to be straightforward. Which is what Skinnygirl Skin is. Hair: I blow dry and wear it in a pony the rest of the week, under hats…I’m not good. I just got Oscar Blandi dry shampoo and I’m going to try that. But I am not a product person. And I have Oribe shampoo and conditioner in my shower because it matches and I like the way it looks.

Skinnygirl Margarita: A Toast to Summer
From barbecues to lazy beach days, there are so many things that remind me of summer. As for cocktails, nothing says beach season quite like a frozen margarita. Enter Skinnygirl Margarita, Real Housewives star Bethenny Frankel’s latest commercial venture. I was offered a free taste at my local liquor store. Their marketing tactics worked—only 100 calories for this all-natural, preservative-free 4-oz. cocktail lightly sweetened with agave nectar. I also love that it saves me from breaking out the blender . . . more time at the beach!—Ariel Gononsky
