Fall’s Hottest Nail Polish
Summer has come and gone, as have all those neon nail lacquers. Now we’re switching up our manis with these fall nail trends — some obvious, like deep reds, and others not so much, like pearly white. (We’ve always thought wearing white after Labor Day was a fashion faux-pas that just had to be broken.)
Rich jewel tones were all over the fall runways, such as at Karen Walker’s show where models nails were polished with CND Midnight Sapphire ($9, Cnd.com). Other jewel tones we’re loving: Estée Lauder Black Turquoise ($20, Saksfifthavenue.com), MAC Gadabout Girl ($16, Maccosmetics.com), and Essie Stylenomics ($8, Essie.com).
Although light lacquers are typically associated with spring, pale nudes and even white are getting some play this fall. Use these simple, chic colors to accompany fall’s bolder trends, such as a dark lip or cat-eye. Shades we recommend: OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls ($7.25, opi.com), Chanel Frenzy ($26, Chanel.com) and Nails Inc. Jermyn Street ($9.50, Sephora.com).
Gold and silver were two of the hottest colors this summer, thanks to the Olympics, and they aren’t going anywhere. If you’re into a bold mani, but like us, you don’t have the ambidexterity to tackle nail art, metallics are a smart option. Add these to your collection: Tom Ford Dominatrix ($30, Neimanmarcus.com), Butter London Shag ($14, Butterlondon.com), and Sonia Kashuk Dime A Dozen ($4.99, Target.com)
The French manicure has gone through so many transformations in recent years. This season, try a neutral base and dark tip, like the mani models wore at Donna Karan’s fall runway show. More combinations we’re dying to try: Julep Otte ($14, Trinaturk.com) with CND Bloodline ($9, Cnd.com) and Deborah Lippmann Modern Love ($16, Lippmanncollection.com) with Zoya Diva Collection Song ($8, Zoya.com). And since gray is a huge color this season (not just because of Fifty Shades of Grey), you have to try gray on gray. We love China Glaze on Safari Elephant Walk ($5.99, Enailsupply.com) as the base and Nars Storm Bird ($18, Sephora.com) as the tips. Understated and classy.
Which trend is your favorite?
Get Your Glitter On
When you’re getting ready for a big night or just want to look a little extra special, sparkly baubles make a great addition to your look, but have you thought about adding a little glimmer to your beauty routine? There are plenty of products to get your face and body glowing. Here’s our list of favorites:
NYX Roll On Shimmer in Platinum, $4.49
This easy to use roller is a great multi-tasker. You can use it to add some sheer shimmer to your eyes, cheeks or décolletage.
Warm Up with Spa Night
With temperatures fall-ing, we’ll soon be tempted to avoid all outdoor activities and spend our downtime hibernating under the covers. So, what better time than now to pamper and prep ourselves for the harsher temps ahead? Drown out a case of the Mondays with any or all of these six picks. -Samantha Sutton Read all the customer reviews on mark’s Calm Yourself Hydrating Mask ($9) and you’ll definitely feel the urge to test it for yourself. After using a cleanser, apply the mask to fix dry skin and protect it from future harsh skin-ditions.
Bubbles plus a long, warm bath will help you escape the cold temps! Aveeno Stress Relief Foaming Bath ($5.99 on Target.com) will moisturize your skin as you soak, and its calming lavender scent promises to erase any worries.
We love The Body Shop! Their products love us back too, especially their Peppermint Cooling Pumice Foot Scrub ($14). The fresh smell combined with miracle-working bits of pumice stone will leave your puppies feeling smoother than ever!
One of the hottest nail trends this year is crackle polish, and I personally love it because it’s so low-may (those chips are way less noticeable). Sephora by OPI’s Blasted Nail Colour ($9.50) comes in a variety of different cracked shades that are perfect for an at-home mani/pedi.
Celebs swear by Kiehl’s Crème de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Whipped Body Butter ($35) and it’s no wonder! It deeply hydrates dry skin for 24 hours but has a super-light feel—and a great smell!
Nothing is more relaxing than chilling in comfy clothes! Stay warm and snug in this Sweater Robe ($44.50) from Victoria’s Secret, paired with these cute Old Navy Sweater Knit Booties(SALE: $19.50) which are perf for a case of cold feet. Fashion Week Favorite Beauty Round-up
Hair:
We loved the effortless look with a new “twist” Ted Gibson created for Lela Rose: “The new braid for Spring!” We can actually do this one ourselves.
We think textured, beachy So-Cal hair like the looks created by curl expert Ouidad backstage at Timo Weiland will be an easy trend to create at home this Spring and Summer. Try a loose updo topped with a sporty backwards baseball cap.
We saw a chic, sleek pony styled by Renato Campora for Frederic Fekkai at Marchesa. Dress it up by wrapping a section of hair around ponytail to conceal the band.
Make-up:
The look at Rachel Zoe was a heavy eye with natural lips. The lipstick from her new Exude line was used on the models in Nude.
We are so obsessed with the retro matte eyeshadow topped with black liquid liner we saw backstage at Alice+Olivia, created by Sarah Lucero for Stila on Beauty.com. Perfect!

Buy Now, Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner, $20
Brows are going to be huge for Spring! The models at Altuzarra sported minimal makeup but with serious brows created by MAC make-up artists. They were also responsible for the major brows backstage at Proenza Schouler and paired them with pretty flushed cheeks.
Statement-making brows were the theme backstage at Cynthia Rowley too, where Make-up Forever artists used shadow to fill them in.
Brows were a big part of the look created by Francois Nars, founder of NARS cosmetics, for the Marc Jacobs show. A strong brow was paired with major lashes and nude lips inspired by Amy Winehouse.

Nails:
We spotted pretty and preppy pink striped nails at Rebecca Minkoff. To get this look, paint vertical stripes using essie’s bright Pink Parka over essie’s Below the Belt white.

Sally Hansen’s natural looking Parchment Complete Salon Manicure polish was used to create the natural-looking nails backstage at one of our favorite young designers, Alexander Wang.

Perfect Manicure & Pedicure:
Best Colors & Products for Summer+Giveaway
When it comes to summer style, some of the staples that first come to mind are a chic bikini, breezy sundress, and great pair of sandals. But one of the most important accessories for summer is a perfect manicure and pedicure. We’ve picked the hottest polish colors and products to get your hands and feet looking their best this summer.
Polishes:
For the natural girl who likes a subtle, sheer shade, Essie’s Petal Pink is the perfect pale neutral. For more coverage, we also love Steady as She Rose
, a pretty pale pinkish-purple, from OPI’s new “Pirates of the Carribean” collection. The chic Skull and Glossbones light gray is another easy-to-wear favorite.
If you’re looking for beachy brights, we love Essie’s Mod Squad pink. Too Too Hot
from its new Braziliant collection is the perfect red with a hint of coral. (It looks great with a tan!) We’re also obsessed with the nautical-inspired Smooth Sailing,
a light denim blue with just the right amount of sparkle. Teal nail polish is on-trend right now, so the matte Turquoise and Caicos
by Essie is a great choice. Our Founder Melissa Meyers is sporting Lilacism,
a bright Lilac, as her pedicure color of choice this summer.
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure polishes have unique flat brushes that allow polish to go on smoothly and effortlessly, perfect for anyone who finds that her self-applications tend to be either streaky or bubbly. There are tons of great colors to choose from, such as Casting Call, a flattering pink coral for cool skin tones, or Fever, an orange coral ideal for warm skin tones.
If you’re a fan of classic red, Sally Hansen’s Runway Red-y can’t be beat, and neither can the drugstore prices! Both of these shades are summer limited editions (available at drugstores nationwide).
It’d be impossible to write a round-up of the best nail polish shades without including a product by Chanel. The intriguing Paradoxal is the perfect shade of deep purple (with a hint of sparkle that is only visible in direct light). This is a great color for all seasons.
Products:
A few new nail products have come out recently making at-home mani-pedis super easy. You can get a professional finish at home with Kiesque Liquid Palisade. It looks like lavendar liquid eyeliner, and you put it wherever you don’t want polish. It works as a shortcut for French manicures or trendy half-moon styles, or you can just put it on your cuticles and around your nail edges and peel it off when dry to reveal a perfect polish job.
Essie Quick-E Drying Drops might just be life changing. We’ve all tried so many top coats that claim to make polish dry faster, but none works as well as these drops. Plus, the dropper application spreads evenly and penetrates nail polish, causing it to dry almost instantly and leaving a great layer of shine.
Ever plan on getting a pedicure after work, only to realize you don’t have flip-flops to change into? Or wished you had a comfy pair of flats with you to relieve the pain of your sexy pumps? CitySlips CityFlips have you covered. This make-up case contains a pair of foldable flip-flops and doubles as a tote to carry your heels in. It’s easy to carry in your bag at all times. Now you won’t have to tip-toe around with wet toes in those salon-provided paper sandals.
